Alun Jones QC & Rupert Bowers are representing Lord Hanningfield in the criminal proceedings arising from claims on parliamentary allowances.

Alun Jones QC and Amanda Jones represented the successful Claimants

February 2010

Alun Jones QC and Amanda Jones represented the successful Claimants in the case of R (on the application of Bhatti & others) v Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. The Divisional Court held that the entries into, and searches of, the Claimants’ premises were unlawful by reason of a breach of s.16(5)(c) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. All items seized were to be returned to the Claimants forthwith. The matter has been adjourned to a single judge in the Queen’s Bench Division for assessment of damages.
