Peter Lange secures jury inquiry in terrorism matter

The New South Wales Court of Appeal today decided to request an inquiry into one of the jurors who sat on the trial of a man convicted of terrorism offences. Peter appeared as leading counsel on behalf of the applicant.

Successful appeal for Laura Herbert

December 2013

Laura Herbert has successfully appealed against a sentence of imprisonment for public protection (IPP) before the Court of Appeal. She argued that the basis on which the original judge passed sentence erred in law in that he failed to consider an extended sentence (EPP) in light of the law post July 2008; and that an extended sentence would have adequately protected the public. The Court of Appeal quashed the original IPP sentence and substituted it for an extended sentence, which resulted in the Appellant’s immediate release from custody on license.
