We are pleased to announce that Nicole Couse, formerly of 5 Pump Court, has joined Great James Street chambers.

Nicole joins the clerking team from 5 Pump Court, a common law set, where she started her career in 2010. She has conducted all junior roles but also has a good knowledge of diary and practice management. Nicole was selected from a very strong crop of applicants and we believe will be a valuable asset to chambers.

R v Gorman – Acquittal secured

James Stansfeld, instructed by Tony Meisels of Messrs Lewis Nedas & Co, represented Mr Gorman at his trial at Blackfriars’ Crown Court. Following successful legal argument Mr Gorman was acquitted.

Premium Bonds cannot be forfeited under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002

James Stansfeld and Melissa Rollins of Messrs Lewis Nedas & Co successfully challenge an application by The Commissioner of Police to forfeit £35,000 of Premium Bonds seized under s.294 Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. The Commissioner conceded the legal argument raised by James Stansfeld that Premium Bonds are not cash for the purposes of s.289(6) of the Act.
