Nadine read undergraduate law at the Universities of Malta and of Western Ontario, Canada, becoming a Notary Public and receiving the IFSP Certificate in Trust Law and Administration in 2003.
She became Doctor of Laws (LL.D) in December 2005 after submitting a thesis entitled ‘A Study of the
Probation Act and a Comparative Analysis with Non-Custodial Alternatives to Imprisonment’. Nadine
was admitted to the Maltese Bar in 2006.
After being awarded a British Council Chevening Scholarship, Nadine read a Masters in Public International Law (LL.M) at The University of Kent. Nadine submitted her dissertation on “The
European Arrest Warrant and its Transposition into UK law” after doing field research at the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Court in The
Hague, The Netherlands. Nadine graduated in September 2006.
Nadine subsequently pursued a career as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malta in the bilateral relations department of the diplomatic corps where she gained extensive experience in
European and International affairs and represented Malta abroad in delegations and on diplomatic assignments and participated in negotiations at the Commission in Brussels.
After being called to the English bar Nadine appeared in the Youth, Magistrates’ and Crown Courts (including the Old Bailey), and Court of Appeal representing clients on mainly, but not solely, criminal
After returning to Malta, Nadine joined the Attorney General’s Office in 2007 as a litigation prosecutor and legal advisor. Nadine’s role involved appearing in the Magistrates Court, Criminal Court, leading
complex jury trials, Court of Appeals both inferior and superior and the Constitutional Court in criminal and civil matters and those related to extradition and European arrest warrants and was the Attorney General’s representative on the Malta Maritime Law Advisory Council.
Apart from this, Nadine’s role involved drafting laws and regulations, advising government entities, Executive Police and corporations as well as being Malta’s representative at the European Council, The Commission and Eurojust in legal negotiations requiring the amendments of national legislation.
In 2010 Nadine was the National Coordinator for a South Eastern Circuit visit to Malta with the Judiciary, Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
Nadine had a successful career as a leading litigation prosecutor and an excellent track record of convictions in trial by juries culminating in the conviction of Malta’s first ever double life sentence.
Her field of practice varies across all litigation matters to legal research in Criminal, Civil, Commercial and Corporate, International and European areas. She is also proficient in the drafting of a variety of legal instruments from commercial agreements and civil litigation instruments to legal opinions.
Nadine is a visiting lecturer and examiner at the University of Malta, lecturing in Oral Advocacy and Advocacy Skills at the Faculty of Law and European and Comparative Studies in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.
