Ishaq Usama, instructed by CS Solicitors, secured a unanimous Not Guilty verdict for a defendant charged with conspiracy to convey controlled drugs into prison following a 6-day trial at Hereford Crown Court.
The prosecution case relied on CCTV footage said to show the defendant smuggling packages into the prison during visits, together with evidence that he was later found in possession of controlled drugs during a prison visit. The Crown also relied on phone messages in which the defendant allegedly attempted to persuade a co-defendant to smuggle further drugs into the prison.
Following careful cross-examination and submissions, Ishaq successfully persuaded the jury that the defendant did not know he was conveying controlled drugs and that there was no agreement between the defendant and the co-defendant capable of amounting to a conspiracy.
After deliberation, the jury returned unanimous Not Guilty verdicts.
