Caitlyn has developed a busy criminal practice and is regularly instructed in both prosecution and defence work across the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court. She is a CPS Grade 1 Prosecutor and routinely conducts trials, sentencing hearings, case management hearings and Newton hearings involving a broad range of offences, including violence, dishonesty, road traffic and public order matters. She is experienced in dealing with contested evidential issues and regularly advises in relation to sentencing, abuse of process arguments and procedural applications.

Caitlyn has appeared in the Crown Court in Plea and Trial Preparation Hearings, appeals against conviction and sentence, committals for sentence and non-contested Proceeds of Crime Act proceedings. She has also represented defendants in matters involving Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and has successfully advanced mitigation resulting in non-custodial disposals. Her Magistrates’ Court experience includes contested trials requiring submissions on hearsay admissibility and exceptional hardship applications.

During pupillage, Caitlyn assisted in the preparation of serious Crown Court trials involving allegations of attempted murder, rape and serious sexual offences. She gained experience drafting skeleton arguments, sentencing notes and legal research memoranda across a wide range of criminal matters. She also completed a noting brief in a Coroner’s Court inquest concerning a death following a residential gas explosion, providing her with valuable experience in sensitive and complex proceedings involving expert and technical evidence.

Caitlyn accepts instructions in extradition matters and is keen to develop her practice in this area alongside her established criminal work. She has a particular interest in cases involving international and cross-border elements, including matters engaging human rights considerations, procedural fairness and issues of criminal justice cooperation between jurisdictions. Drawing on her experience in criminal litigation, advocacy and complex legal drafting, Caitlyn approaches extradition work with thorough preparation and attention to detail.

Caitlyn also accepts instructions in regulatory and professional discipline matters. She is interested in developing a practice involving proceedings brought by regulatory bodies and cases concerning professional conduct, fitness to practise and public protection. Her experience in criminal advocacy has provided her with a strong foundation in evidential analysis, witness handling and written submissions, all of which translate effectively to regulatory proceedings. Caitlyn is able to assist in matters involving healthcare, professional and licensing regulation, and welcomes instructions in disciplinary hearings, interim order applications, advisory work and associated appeals.

Alongside her practice, Caitlyn has maintained a strong commitment to mentoring and pro bono work. She previously served as both Team Member and Team Leader for the Cardiff University Innocence Project, conducting legal research and contributing to Criminal Cases Review Commission applications concerning potential miscarriages of justice. She also mentors aspiring law students and has completed specialist Youth Justice Legal Centre training concerning representation of child defendants and youth court advocacy.
