Dr Raj Joshi

Dr Raj Joshi is a senior barrister with extensive experience across serious crime, complex regulation and public sector governance. He brings a modern, forensic approach to advocacy and is known for his ability to navigate highstakes, sensitive matters with precision, humanity and strategic clarity. His practice spans serious criminal litigation, regulatory proceedings, extradition, and public law.

Raj has acted in a wide range of complex and demanding cases, including highlevel fraud, organised drug trafficking, modern slavery, rape and child abuse. He is recognised for his ability to manage cases involving vulnerable witnesses, crossborder elements and significant evidential challenges. Raj’s RASSO and vulnerable witness training has allowed him to deal with sensitive and complex issues across his practice.

In recent years, Raj has developed a substantial regulatory practice and is regarded as counsel of choice for serious and complex matters before the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Raj also serves as Chair and Legal Adviser for GPhC statutory committees, bringing balanced, adjudicative insight to professional discipline. Raj ‘s work for the GMC completes his wide range of regulatory work. His regulatory work is informed by decades of senior public sector experience, including leadership roles within the Crown Prosecution Service and advisory work for ministers and international partners.

Before joining the independent Bar, Raj held senior positions addressing some of the most challenging issues in the criminal justice system in the UK and abroad. His work included drafting international protocols, conducting country evaluations, and providing evidence before parliamentary and judicial committees. He contributed to the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry and made recommendations on legislative and procedural reform, including amendments to the Race Relations Act.
