Raj is a senior, experienced barrister with a modern approach and an impressive archive of successes, committed to championing human rights, combatting prejudice and discrimination. Raj has dealt with a plethora of serious, complex and sensitive cases from high-level fraud and drug trafficking to modern slavery, rape and child abuse. More recently, Raj has widened his experience into regulatory work and is now considered ‘counsel of choice’ for serious and complex cases on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Raj joined the independent Bar following a successful career in the public sector, where he was responsible for dealing with some of the most challenging issues facing the criminal justice system in the UK and abroad. Raj provided advice to ministers, drafted international protocols. carried out country evaluations and appeared before parliamentary and judicial committees whilst working at the CPS and as a volunteer for a number of groups. He gave evidence in the Stephen Lawrence inquiry and made recommendations on amending legislation, practice and procedure including the Race Relations Act. Raj has acted pro-bono in a number of high-profile matters affecting communities at a local and national level. Raj is a tenacious and versatile Barrister who uses his skills and passion to ensure that his clients are given the opportunity to put their best case forward in every circumstance.
