Shaun is a senior criminal defence advocate of over 35 years’ experience and is an Honorary Doctor of Laws. He specialises in a wide range of serious criminal cases from murder, manslaughter, fraud, money laundering, firearms and drug trafficking. He has lectured in environmental law, health and safety and road transport law and Regulations. In addition, he is familiar with all aspects of the Proceeds of Crime Act, including restraint, confiscation and enforcement. Shaun frequently leads in multi-handed cases.

Shaun can be contacted outside office hours and will regularly attend at solicitor’s offices to assist in the preparation of cases and to advise.

He is known for his hard work, pleasant manner with clients and a very persuasive court style.

Notable Cases

R v Crookes & Others (2019) – Old Bailey
A multi handed gang related shooting. Shaun’s client was found not guilty on 2 counts of attempted murder (Joint enterprise), 2 counts of possession of a firearm and 2 counts of GBH after a 5-week trial at The Old Bailey

R-v-Smith and others (2009) – Old Bailey
A multi-handed murder; Operation Trident Case involving issues of anonymity of witnesses, cell site analysis, covert surveillance, expert witnesses (DNA/Firearms).

R-v-Bonsouw and others (2009) – St Albans CC
A multi-handed conspiracy to import class A drugs and false imprisonment involving complex cell site analysis.

R-v-Gowen (2009) – ILCC
Rape.

Multi-handed Attempted Murder.

Quizzing, Television and Celebrity Career

In 2004, Shaun became a champion of the long running BBC quiz show Mastermind, which also tests a contestant’s aptitude on a subject of their choice. Shaun’s specialist subject in the final was FA Cup finals.

Shaun was a finalist on the first series of Are you an Egghead? Other shows that he has been a contestant on include Fifteen to One, The weakest Link and Greed.

Since 2009, Shaun has appeared as a “Chaser” on the UK television series The Chase, a game show which airs on ITV. His nickname on the show is “The Dark Destroyer”. He also appears on the celebrity editions of The Chase.

In 2018, Shaun featured as a guest Chaser on the Australian version of The Chase

Shaun released his autobiography ‘Chasing the Dream’ late in 2018 and held a book launch hosted by Great James Street Chambers at The Old Bailey’s Grand Hall.

In 2019, Shaun appeared on the celebrity version of Catchphrase and as a guest in Dictionary Corner on the channel 4 gameshow Countdown.

Charity events

Shaun devotes a lot of his time to social enterprise work speaking in schools, colleges and other institutions. He conducts moots at schools and colleges around the country. His aim is to inspire others and to share his experiences and successes.

Shaun spends most of his evenings dedicating his time to charity events, often hosting quiz nights and moots to raise money for many charities.
