Rushnay Sikander

In 2019, Rushnay interned at the International Bar Association’s Legal Policy and Research Unit, where she was able to assist in The Judicial Integrity Initiative that aimed to tackle international judicial corruption by defending the rule of law and upholding ethical principles throughout the profession.

In 2018, at the height of the refugee crisis, Rushnay was selected to assist on a field mission with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) in Lebanon. Whilst in the field, Rushnay gained casework experience engaging with international jurisdictions and was able to personally experience at first-hand, the global refugee struggle.

Previously, Rushnay volunteered as a Debate Coach for youths in Palestine. She has also volunteered at Za’atari Refugee camp in Jordan. In 2015, Rushnay gained a TEFL accreditation when teaching at an orphanage in Cambodia.

Whilst a student at SOAS, Rushnay was committed to the ‘Decolonising SOAS’ Movement which aimed to interrogate and transform the institutional, structural and epistemological legacies of colonialism within higher education.
