Public Law and Judicial Review

Barristers at Great James Street Chambers are renowned for our public law expertise, with Members regularly appearing in high profile cases of before all courts. This includes Judicial Review, governmental and other inquiries, tribunal proceedings, disciplinary proceedings involving public bodies and statutory appeal work.

We provide advice to both private sector parties bringing public law challenges and public sector bodies seeking to defend their decisions. We act for various local authorities across England and Wales as well as for companies and individuals.

Our Head of Chambers, Alun Jones KC, is regularly instructed by individuals and companies to challenge warrants, including European Arrest Warrants and search warrants. His involvement at an early stage in proceedings often changes the course of investigations where the validity of a warrant is challenged. Alun has been successful in many cases where the High Court has found warrants to be unlawful, ordering the return of seized items, discharging warrants and awarding costs.

Our Judicial Review team are instructed to challenge decisions made by the CPS to prosecute, or indeed where a decision has been made not to prosecute. We have been involved in matters relating to discrimination in this regard, looking at police policies and charging decisions.

We have barristers on the Attorney General’s Junior Junior Panel who are instructed in a wide variety of matters for the Government Legal Department.
