Mini Pupillage

We offer mini-pupillages to those interested in a career at the Bar in our core areas of Chambers’ specialisms.

Our mini pupillages involve a 1 week shadowing experience during which you will attend London courts with our barristers. Our barristers will offer guidance and advice and you will have an opportunity to join client conferences and witness court proceedings. You will be expected to independently travel to and from courts and our experienced clerking team will work with you to discuss accessibility and any individual needs.

Applications can be made by e-mail. Please send a short cover letter and Curriculum Vitae, clearly marked “Mini-Pupillage Application,” to the Pupillage Committee at clerks@greatjames.co.uk

Our mini pupillages are in high demand and we are now fully booked for the remainder of 2026. We will aim to re-open our application procedure at the end of 2026 for 2027 mini pupillages.

Great James Street Chambers has a firm commitment to equal opportunities and welcomes and encourages applications from all sections of society.

MINI PUPILLAGE GRANT SCHEME BY LINCOLN’S INN

The Lincoln’s Inn mini-pupillage grant scheme offers financial support to students wishing to undertake mini-pupillages who would otherwise not be able to do so. Grants are intended to assist with the costs of travel and accommodation as well as a clothing allowance if needed. The value of each grant is calculated based on the applicant’s anticipated expenses up to a maximum of ÂŁ500.

Further information on eligibility can be found here.

SHADOWING THE CLERKING TEAM

Shadowing opportunities are now fully booked for 2026. We are no longer accepting applications.

We offer 1 day shadowing experiences for those interested in gaining an insight into the workings of the Clerks’ room, the ‘engine room’ of any Chambers.

As a virtual set, we are able to invite successful applicants to observe the day to day running of Chambers via Skype, allowing an up close opportunity to witness how a busy clerking team operates, ask questions and gain invaluable experience in learning the administrative roles within a Chambers.

Applications can be made by e-mail. Please send a short cover letter and Curriculum Vitae, clearly marked “Shadowing the clerking team,” to the Senior Clerk at zoe.preston@greatjames.co.uk
