To mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (‘UDHR’) BPP University hosted a Social Impact Human Rights Conference. Our pupil, Lucia Coerman, was invited to be part of a panel on international human rights.
The panel was asked to discuss how the standing of internationally recognised human rights have developed since the UDHR was adopted, how international human rights are viewed in the international space today, and developments that are likely to occur in the coming years to address the new challenges we face.
Lucia was asked to speak about victim reparations, specifically, she discussed the introduction and development of victim reparations in the context of international criminal law. She highlighted the approach taken by various international courts and tribunals to implement and deliver victim reparations, the challenges they have faced and how some of these challenges may be addressed through legal developments that have occurred since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
