Ann Tayo, instructed by Sunil Lakhani of Makwanas Solicitors, secures a Not Guilty verdict for her client, a young man prosecuted by Kings Counsel who was charged with four allegations of rape.
The issue was consent and reasonable belief in consent. The defence case was that the allegations were malicious and fabricated as retaliation, after the complainant, who was older than the defendant, discovered that throughout the period of their relationship, he was already in an arranged marriage with a woman ten years her junior.
After a 6-day trial at Isleworth Crown Court, the jury returned with Not Guilty verdicts on all counts.
