Brereton Horne, instructed by JDS Solicitors, secured the acquittal of his client who faced an indictment containing two counts of Possessing Criminal Property, contrary to section 329(1) of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant was part of a wider fraud, defrauding three companies of just under £58,000 (for which another defendant had previously pleaded guilty), when he had sums of money deposited into his bank account.
Brereton submitted to the jury that his client did not have the requisite knowledge or suspicion to be convicted of the offences.
The jury deliberated for approximately 2 hours and returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty.
