Helen Douglass-Dixon instructed by TS Law, represented a defendant who was unanimously acquitted of both charges following a four-day trial at Canterbury Crown Court, with the jury reaching its verdicts in less than three hours.
The defendant faced allegations of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and attempted sexual communication with a child. The prosecution alleged that he had communicated online with an undercover officer posing as a 12-year-old child, relying on digital evidence said to link the account to the defendant including that the account used was connected to his home Wi-Fi at the time of the communications.
The defence case was that the defendant was not the individual behind the communications. A medical expert instructed by the defence gave evidence of significant physical differences between the defendant and the individual depicted in indecent images sent during the communications.
The jury returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty on both counts.
