Kevin Metzger, together with Zaheer Afzal (St Philips Chambers) and both led by Michael Ivers QC (Garden Court Chambers), instructed by Aftab Zahoor of Clayton Solicitors, secured acquittals for their client on charges of murder, manslaughter and robbery at the Warwick Justice Centre, following a 4 week re-trial.
This was the third trial of the defendant, previous trials never having reached the jury. At the second trial, the prosecution successfully appealed the trial judge’s ruling that hearsay evidence detailing an alleged confession to murder by the defendant from the first defendant’s mother could not be adduced, citing it as a terminatory ruling.
The jury returned not guilty verdicts on all counts after deliberating for less than a day.
