Alison Gurden was instructed in the Criminal Court of Viera, Florida to represent the family members of a murder victim who wished to invoke their right to make representations to the court in relation to a death penalty sentence.
The State wanted the perpetrator to be given a death sentence and refused to recognise the views of the victims family when they opposed the death penalty and requested a life sentence.
After 15 years the case was brought back to court for a resentence hearing, the victim’s family members made a statement to the court and the death penalty replaced with a life sentence.
