Mahmud Aslam, instructed by Emma Lewis of MK Law Solicitors, has secured unanimous Not Guilty verdicts at Sheffield Crown Court for his client charged on allegations of possession with intent to supply cocaine, MDMA, LSD, and ketamine.
The defendant, a well-known London-based and international DJ and Master of Ceremonies, had travelled to Sheffield with his brother to attend a music festival and a subsequent after-party at a local nightclub. Prior to entering the nightclub, both brothers were observed inhaling nitrous oxide from balloons while seated in their vehicle.
When uniformed police officers approached the vehicle, a number of packets were thrown from the car, with further packets remaining inside. The substances recovered consisted of a significant quantity and variety of Class A and Class B drugs, packaged in weights which the Prosecution alleged were consistent with onward supply.
The Prosecution relied on expert evidence asserting that it would not have been possible for two individuals to consume the quantity of drugs recovered within the timeframe of the festival and after-party. Despite opposition from the Defence, the Court ruled that the defendant’s previous convictions for conspiracy to supply drugs were admissible and placed before the jury. The defendant provided a no-comment interview and declined to provide the PIN to access his mobile phone.
At trial, the defendant accepted possession of the drugs and that he had brought them to Sheffield. However, he maintained that the substances were “party packs” intended solely for personal use and not for supply or sale, explaining that his tolerance to drugs had increased over a number of years.
Following deliberation, the jury returned unanimous verdicts of Not Guilty on all counts.
