Nick Beechey, instructed by Mary Monson Solicitors, after two weeks of an abuse of process argument at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court had no evidence offered against his lay client. Ten defendants were accused of managing two high class brothels and associated proceeds of crime offences (the two establishments turned over approximately £1 million a year). The abuse focused on Greater Manchester Police’s policy of taking no enforcement action over 14 years despite being fully aware of the nature of the business and the extent to which they allowed the premises to operate as if they were a legitimate, regulated business. The case has attracted national media coverage.
