Great James Street Chambers has undertaken a comprehensive review of its private fee structures across our principal practice areas.
Our published rates have been reviewed against current market conditions and the fees charged for comparable work across the Bar. Following that review, we will be introducing revised private fee rates with effect from 1st October 2026.
The review covers a number of our key practice areas, including crime, extradition, immigration, family, civil and mediation work, and reflects the increasing complexity of instructions, preparation required and the level of specialist expertise provided by our barristers.
Whilst our published rates provide greater transparency and an indication of the likely cost of instructing Counsel, we recognise that no two cases are the same. Our clerking team will continue to work closely with professional and Public Access clients to provide clear and proportionate fee quotations based upon the individual requirements of each case.
Where appropriate, papers will be reviewed by Counsel prior to acceptance of instructions to enable the clerks to assess the work required and provide an appropriate fee proposal. Fees will take into account factors including the complexity and urgency of the case, volume of papers, preparation and hearing time required, and the seniority and expertise of Counsel instructed.
Where possible, fixed fees will be agreed in advance, providing certainty as to costs. All fees and the scope of work covered will be agreed in writing before work is undertaken.
The revised rates are intended to bring Chambers’ fees more closely in line with the prevailing market whilst ensuring that Great James Street Chambers continues to provide competitive and transparent access to high-quality specialist advocacy and legal advice.
The revised fee structures will apply to new private instructions received from 1st October 2026. Our clerking team remains available to discuss individual cases, fee estimates and the appropriate choice of Counsel.
