A complaint has been brought against the UK Government on behalf of five prisoners to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (‘WGAD’)

Dr Muin Boase drafted the Complaint with invaluable support from Alun Jones KC, Dean Kingham, Mariana Drinkwater and the students on the University of Derby Human Rights Clinic.

The five prisoners claim that they are or have been detained arbitrarily on sentences of Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP). This is the 9th case ever brought against the United Kingdom to the WGAD in 26 years and was covered by The Independent:
