Alison Gurden successfully defended a parent against 8 child neglect charges.
In a trial lasting 8 days, Alison argued that there was no case to answer for the neglect, on the basis that the family were low income and at the mercy of a social landlord for home repairs and that the police officers had used their own high standards of living and not those of a family on a very low income.
The Judge agreed and directed the jury to enter not guilty verdicts on 4 of the charges. The jury deliberated on the other 4 charges and found the parent not guilty.
