Ann Tayo, instructed by Shaikh Solicitors, secured a Not Guilty verdict for her client charged with s18 GBH, following a trial at Aylesbury Crown Court.
Three youths, who were aged seventeen at the time of the alleged offences, were acquitted by the jury within two hours.
Each defendant was separately represented and it was their family, as well as an independent witness, who had called police. The events unfolded within a restaurant and the civilian witnesses, who gave live evidence on behalf of the prosecution, had been in possession of a claw hammer, a belt brandished as a weapon and a bottle, all of which was clearly caught on CCTV.
Ann asked the jury whether the right individuals were in the dock? The answer was evidently ‘No!’ as they found the unarmed youth and his brother not guilty of affray and their cousin (who had earlier pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding: s.20 GBH and affray) not guilty of s.18 wounding with intent to cause GBH.
