Brereton Horne, instructed by Tarsem Salhan of Salhan & Company Solicitors, secured the acquittal of his client charged with: Conspiracy to supply class A drugs, contrary to section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977; and with possession of criminal property, contrary to section 329(1)(c) of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
Brereton’s client was the front seat passenger in a car when he was arrested with 3 kilograms (three 1kg blocks) in a bag in the front passenger footwell of the car. Two other defendants pleaded guilty to the conspiracy (one pleaded during the first week of the trial and the other earlier in the proceedings). Two other defendants were tried on the same indictment.
Following a trial, which went into a fifth week at Worcester Crown Court (prosecuted by a KC and junior counsel), the jury returned a unanimous verdict of Not Guilty on the Proceeds on Crime count, and a majority verdict of Not Guilty on the Conspiracy to Supply Class A count for Brereton’s client.
The co-defendants, who remained in the trial, were found guilty unanimously by the jury.
