Kate Riekstina, instructed by Parker Bird Whitely, secures Not Guilty verdicts for her client charged with possession of a firearm and violent disorder, following a 3 week trial at Leeds Crown Court.
Kate represented the first defendant of eight. The Crown’s case was that two groups of men had planned to engage in a violent disorder in Holmfirth town centre. Both groups had armed themselves with firearms and weapons and the Crown pursued the case on the basis of joint enterprise in relation to the firearm. The incident and the defendants’ movements prior to the incident, were captured on CCTV.
The Defendant denied knowledge of the firearm and any involvement in the violent disorder. The Defendant stated that he had been on a night out with friends and had been ambushed by the other group.
The jury returned unanimous verdict of Not Guilty.
