Kevin Metzger, led by Gurdeep Singh Garcha KC, both instructed by Masawar Iqbal of IB Legal, successfully defended their client in a high-profile murder trial at Leicester Crown Court.
The case arose from the killing of an inmate in a Leicester prison. The defendant and two others were charged with murder, a count which the prosecution vigorously pursued. Following a detailed and carefully executed defence, the jury acquitted the defendant of murder. He was isunstead convicted of manslaughter, reflecting the jury’s acceptance of key aspects of the defence case, including a lack of intent to kill.
The defendant was sentenced to 11 years’ custody for manslaughter.
