Mark Robinson, instructed by Shearman Bowen, secures an acquittal for his client charged with one count of Possession of Criminal Property, after a four-day trial at Southwark Crown Court.

The defendant’s husband was stopped in his car, where 28 individual wraps of cocaine and a smaller quantity of MDMA was found hidden. A large quantity of cash was also seized. The defendant’s home was then searched, and a quantity of cash was found in the lining of a jacket belonging to her.

Throughout the course of the trial, Mark was able to adduce evidence that the money seized was gifted at her wedding and the defendant, who worked at a prestigious restaurant for two years prior to being arrested, saved a considerable amount of tip money, which was mostly given in cash. The prosecution also instructed a financial investigator who found nothing out of the ordinary with the couple’s finances.

Mark submitted that his client was a financially independent woman, who had no reliance on her husband and there was no evidence of drug supply or drug paraphernalia found in the home.

The jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict for Mark’s client.
