Nick Beechey, instructed by Gavin Rose of Wells Burcombe Solicitors, was successful in the Court of Appeal in having his lay client’s convictions (and 10 year prison sentence) for historic sex offences quashed. Neither counsel nor solicitor acted for the appellant at trial. The appeal was brought nearly 4 years out of time and was argued on the basis of non-disclosure of the complainant’s antecedent history and fresh evidence capable of undermining the complainant’s credibility. No retrial was ordered.
